How to Buy Tokenized Stocks With Stablecoins (USDC)

Some platforms accept stablecoins such as USDC. Here is how that funding route works and the extra risks it introduces.

Why stablecoins are used

Stablecoins are crypto-assets designed to hold a steady value against a currency such as the US dollar. Some tokenized stock platforms accept them because they settle on the same blockchains as the stock tokens.

The general process

  1. Confirm the platform accepts residents of your country and supports stablecoin deposits.
  2. Acquire the stablecoin through a lawful, regulated channel in your country.
  3. Check the exact network the platform supports — sending on the wrong network can lose funds permanently.
  4. Send a small test transfer first.
  5. Buy the tokenized stock and note all fees for tax records.

Extra risks to consider

  • Stablecoin issuer risk: a stablecoin can lose its peg.
  • Network fees and congestion.
  • Irreversible transfers to the wrong address or network.
  • Local rules on buying, holding or converting crypto-assets.
