How it works

Screenshots from the Pump.fun app, October 2026. Prices are just examples.

  1. Pump.fun Stocks tab listing Tesla, Micron, SK hynix, the QQQ ETF and Pre-IPO tokens with prices

    1.Open the Stocks tab

Tesla, Micron, the QQQ ETF and more, priced in dollars. Heads up: the “Pre-IPO” ones aren't shares in those companies.

  2. Pump.fun page for the Micron (MU) stock token showing its chart, a verified badge and a green trade button

    2.Pick the stock you want

Tap a stock to see its chart, then hit the green button to trade. Check for the badge next to the name so you get the real token, not a lookalike.

  3. Pump.fun buy screen entering 5 USDC for Micron with a 0.4% fee shown above the Submit button

    3.Buy with USDC

No crypto yet? Tap Deposit and top up with Apple Pay (Apple Card works too) or a debit or credit card. The fee shows before you hit Submit — 0.40% with a referral code.

Crypto rules in Ireland

The Central Bank of Ireland supervises crypto service providers under the EU's MiCA rules, which have applied since 30 December 2024. Its MiCA FAQ explains how firms apply.

Money and tax in Ireland

Local currency: Euro (EUR). Card and Apple Pay top-ups are converted to USDC, so your card provider may add a currency conversion fee.

Tax: Gains are generally taxed as capital gains at 33%, with the first €1,270 of total gains each year exempt. Frequent trading that counts as a business can be taxed as income instead.

What you're actually buying

A token that tracks a real US share 1:1. The issuer holds the actual shares; you hold the token. Price moves and reinvested dividends, yes. Voting rights and a seat at the shareholder meeting, no.

More on how tokenized stocks work

Good to know in Ireland

  • Ireland follows the EU's MiCA rules, so crypto platforms serving Irish residents need an EU licence. The Central Bank of Ireland's registers show who's authorised.
  • Irish brokers also sell real US shares, which may be the simpler route.
  • Gains may be taxable. A local tax adviser can tell you how.

Who regulates this

Questions people ask

Is the €1,270 tax-free amount per token?

No. It covers your total gains for the year after losses, not each token separately.

When do I pay capital gains tax in Ireland?

By 15 December for sales from January to November, and by 31 January the next year for sales in December. Filing your return is separate.

Are tokenized US stocks legal in Ireland?

Honestly, it depends on the product and on Ireland's own rules for securities, crypto and moving money abroad. We haven't finished checking Ireland yet, so we're not making a legal call. The regulator linked on this page is the best place to check.

Do I own the actual shares?

Usually not directly. With xStocks, the issuer holds the real shares and you hold a token that tracks them. Other products work differently — some are just contracts tracking the price. Voting rights and cash dividends are normally not included.

Can I use a VPN if an app blocks Ireland?

Please don't. Getting around location blocks, sanctions or ID checks breaks the app's rules, can get your money frozen, and may be illegal.
