How it works

1.Open the Stocks tab
Tesla, Micron, the QQQ ETF and more, priced in dollars. Heads up: the “Pre-IPO” ones aren't shares in those companies.

2.Pick the stock you want
Tap a stock to see its chart, then hit the green button to trade. Check for the badge next to the name so you get the real token, not a lookalike.

3.Buy with USDC
No crypto yet? Tap Deposit and top up with Apple Pay (Apple Card works too) or a debit or credit card. The fee shows before you hit Submit — 0.40% with a referral code.

Crypto rules in Ethiopia
In February 2026 the National Bank of Ethiopia said any birr-denominated peer-to-peer (P2P) crypto trading is prohibited, including through trading platforms, and that birr-paired P2P services need its explicit approval.
It also said a full framework for digital assets is still being developed. The notice is about P2P deals; it doesn't say anything specific about card top-ups.
Money and tax in Ethiopia
Local currency: Ethiopian birr (ETB). Card and Apple Pay top-ups are converted to USDC, so your card provider may add a currency conversion fee.
Paying and sending money abroad: Paying another person in birr to get crypto through a P2P deal is exactly what the 2026 notice prohibits, even on an overseas platform.
Tax: Not yet verified. A local tax adviser can tell you how gains are taxed.
What you're actually buying
A token that tracks a real US share 1:1. The issuer holds the actual shares; you hold the token. Price moves and reinvested dividends, yes. Voting rights and a seat at the shareholder meeting, no.

Questions people ask
Can I buy USDT from someone with a birr bank transfer?
No. The National Bank of Ethiopia's February 2026 notice prohibits birr-denominated P2P crypto trading, and that includes stablecoins like USDT.
Does Ethiopia license crypto exchanges yet?
Not as of the February 2026 notice, which said a digital-asset framework was still being developed.
Are tokenized US stocks legal in Ethiopia?
Honestly, it depends on the product and on Ethiopia's own rules for securities, crypto and moving money abroad. We haven't finished checking Ethiopia yet, so we're not making a legal call. The regulator linked on this page is the best place to check.
Do I own the actual shares?
Usually not directly. With xStocks, the issuer holds the real shares and you hold a token that tracks them. Other products work differently — some are just contracts tracking the price. Voting rights and cash dividends are normally not included.
Can I use a VPN if an app blocks Ethiopia?
Please don't. Getting around location blocks, sanctions or ID checks breaks the app's rules, can get your money frozen, and may be illegal.
