Ways to get exposure to Apple
There are several legally distinct ways to gain economic exposure to Apple (AAPL). They differ in what you actually own, which rights you receive and which risks you carry.
- Direct shares: buying AAPL through a broker that accepts residents of your country. You (or your broker's nominee) hold actual shares, usually with dividend and voting rights passed through.
- ETFs: funds that hold AAPL alongside many other companies, such as broad US index funds. You own fund units, not AAPL directly.
- Tokenized securities: blockchain tokens issued by a company that typically holds or hedges AAPL shares. Rights and redemption depend entirely on the issuer's terms.
- Derivatives such as CFDs: contracts that pay the price difference. You never own AAPL shares and may face leverage and overnight costs.
Questions to ask before buying a tokenized version
- Who is the issuer, and in which jurisdiction is it regulated?
- Are the underlying shares held 1:1 by a named custodian?
- Are dividends passed on, and in what form?
- Can tokens be redeemed for shares or cash, and by whom?
- Is the product offered to residents of my country under the platform's terms?
Exposure types compared
| Type | What you own | Shareholder rights |
|---|---|---|
| Direct shares | Actual company shares via a broker | Usually dividends & voting |
| Tokenized securities | A regulated token or note from an issuer | Defined by issuer terms |
| Synthetic / derivative | A contract tracking the price | No shareholder rights |
| ETFs | Units in a fund holding many shares | Fund distributions |
| Price-tracking crypto | A crypto asset with no claim on shares | None |
Frequently asked questions
Is a tokenized AAPL token the same as a AAPL share?
Usually not. Most tokenized stocks are issued by a third party and give you a claim against that issuer, not shareholder registration with the company. Read the issuer's prospectus or terms.
